'COME FLY WITH US..........'

Isle Of Wight Regional Grading 7th June update

What a day !!!  THIS was possibly our most succesful competition to date.  Eight of our girls and boys were selected to compete in this competition and most definitely did us proud. The day started with Marguerite and Alice competing on panel 3 and Ciorstan on panel 1.  Alice, competing in her first ever grading at regionals and came in 10th out of a massive group of 32 girls.  An excellent result, very well done Alice.  Margie competed her set to an exceptionally high standard and apparently, according to the head judge 'the best executed routine of the day' This saw her through to take the bronze and qualify for the next grade.  Awesome Margie!  Ciorstan (Chilli) competing down the other end of the hall, managed to execute an impressive set routine showing few signs of the usual nerves and quickly followed it with an impressive vol, competing 7 sommies in her 10 bounce routine for the first time, to take the gold in her age group and qualify for her place in D grade.  The presentations for this group rapidly turnt into a celebration as they called out the placings and an exceptionally shocked Chilli rose to collect her gold medal amidst cheers and applause, GREAT job Chilli great job ! Heather and Ellie competed next on panel 1 and Beth on panel 2.  The younger girls performed well in a tough competing group which saw Ellie come in in 5th place, narrowly missing out on qualifications by 0.4 whilst Heather was placed in 15th place.  A good result for both.  Beth executed a flawless set routine and came in third to take the bronze and a massive improvement from last time. Well done Beth.  Meanwhile, Campbell, nervously (VERY nervously) competed in his first ever gradings and nailed his 3/4 front somersault in his set to also take the bronze medal.  Excellent work Campbell, well done.  Finally,  having (cruelly) had her qualification point taken away in October due to a change in the qualification rules by the powers that be at BG.  Emma preedy competed for the last time at D grade, stayed ON the trampoline resisting the urge to compete the 'Preedy roll', competed her full for the first time in a routine and 'flew' through (pardon the pun) in first place to once again secure her place at nationals.  This was an amazing end to an amazing and succesful day.  We were once again most impressed by the conduct of our gymnasts and so pleased that all their hard work paid off.  We not only took away success, medals and confidence but also some lovely positive comments about our gymnasts and club.  To say we were proud woud be an understatement !!  Well done all and roll on October !!

Sara

Our congratulations go to those girls who competed on Sunday.  Your behaviour and conduct were a credit to our club and we are VERY impressed with the results and high standard achieved.

An extra WELL DONE to Amy Phillips who not only qualified but 'bought home' the GOLD and Regional champion title for her age group.  AWESOME AMY, you deserved that lovely new leotard ! Watch this space for the pics !!

Thank you also, to all those parents who gave up Mothers Day to sit in an exceptionally warm sports hall for most of the day to support us, feed us and calm us when we disagreed with others !! Also thanks to Debbie and Jeff from Heights Trampoline Club for a great day with plenty of tea and no Ferry journeys !!!

Heres looking forwards to June !!

EMMA MAKES NATIONALS WHOOP WHOOP !!

On the 11th October we travelled down to the Isle of Wight where Emma Preedy competed for the club in first regional competition of the season this year, . Emma has been training hard in club, for the past 4 months to perfect a particularly difficult routine and was trying out some high tarrifed moves in the competition, with the hope of qualifying for Nationals later in the season. However, after a particularly pleasing controlled warm up, she managed to compete the most efficient set routine with great form and precision to place herself 3rd in the group of 23. Her voluntary routine was equally as impressive with a total score of 51.1, took her through in 3rd place and a secure place in the days final.

Unfortunately, after a promising start in the final, Emmas piked back somersault got the better of her and Emma found her self creating the clubs newest move, the Preedy roll, right off the end of the trampoline and end frame, attempted to impersonate a gibbon on her way down to land on the floor, scoring 1.8 !!!!  Thankfully no serious injuries sustained....... phew !!

Dispite the dissapointment and drama of the final, her hard work in the earlier  routines had paid off early and Emma qualified for Nationals in the first compeition of the season. We left the Isle of Wight incredibly proud of our gymnast whos tireless commitment to the sport and her own training has paid off. We are now working hard on Emmas new routine and higher tarrifed moves ready to compete in her first competition at Nationals in February and hoping to repeat the success. Fingers crossed..........

Sunday 14th December, our club competition, opened with a spectacular display from Emma Preedy, Leah Allen, Laura Binnee and Hazel Rankin (aka ginge).  This led nicely into the competing rec groups who performed their routines with style and smile!  Many gymnasts, competing for the first time and some old pros.It was also a pleasure to have with us Bucks Trampoline Academy  and the day saw some spectacular individual routines as well as the final syncro competition which was as amusing for the spectators as it was for some of the competitors (Lyds and Dan especially !!).  The day concluded with an impressive display by squad whos enthusiasm was as infectious as their smiles.

As head coach of Thames Valley, I was incredibly proud of all our pupils today.  This is a 'fun' event and although we do have judges and present medals to the winners, we try very hard to ensure that it remains fun not just for those competing but also for those watching and I beleive we may have succeeded in our task today.  I was especially proud of the team spirit and overwealming friendliness of our children.  You were a credit to yourselves and the club.  WELL DONE.

DE photography have now uploaded all of the photos taken at todays event so feel free to have a browse.  User name is valley and password is allen all lower case.  There are some fab pictures !!

Enrolments are now taking place for January term.  Please make a note of your priority enrolment period and have received your letter with the dates.  Please PLEASE make a note of any dates or time changes stated as NO reminders will be sent.

Sunday 28th September saw 4 of our gymnasts compete in Southampton at the kind invitation of Lightening Trampoline Club.  The day started off with an eventful journey down through thick fog.  Managing to arrive just in time for Emma Preedy to compete (having attempted her warm up in the car with her seat belt fastened!) Her set went beautifully until the end when she decided that she needed a softer landing and aimed for the crash mat!  With a 0.8 deduction. Her Vol was superbly performed and she  came in 4th place narrowly missing the bronze medal place in the over 15 Regional D group and with absolutely no sign of the usual tears !! Regional E groups under 13 saw Ciorstan Macdonald(see our pics) and Danyon Hume both achieving silver place in their respective girls and boys group.  Both gymnasts performed to very high standards and managed to hold their form throughout. This being the first time the new regional competition routines were used.  in the Regional G under 9 girls group Maisie Rawlings strode home to take the gold medal position. The afternoon saw both Ciorstan and Dan competing in the first synchronised competition for the club competing against ALL ages and levels and impressed the spectators with their first execution of the routine.  My thanks go to Leah, Louise and Hazel for their support.  Also to the Macdonalds, Dave, Theresa and gramps! For their support.  I dont think I have laughed quite so much (or quite as loudly) as I did during the 'entertainment' provided whilst waiting for the sychronised competition.  The invention of the right/left game and the 'back to front front hat man' will stay with me for a long time yet !!!!!
